Fed up with forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet? Wrinkle relaxers like Botox, Dysport and Xeomin can make your skin smoother and give you a younger appearance. While they do not actually stop the aging process, wrinkle relaxers are great options for men and women who are dissatisfied with the lines and wrinkles in the upper face.

Wrinkle Relaxers: What’s the difference between Botox, Dysport and Xeomin?

The most popular wrinkle relaxers are all injectables comprised of botulinum toxin: Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. Each of these smooths fine lines and wrinkles in the upper face, but there are important differences between them. During a consultation, our aesthetic injection specialists will examine your skin and take your medical history. This is an essential part of the process to determine which wrinkle relaxers are right for your needs.

Botox Cosmetic

You have probably heard plenty about Botox over the years because it is the most popular. Botox smooths lines in the forehead, between the eyebrows, and in the crow’s feet area.

During your Botox treatment, an aesthetic injection specialist will inject very small amounts of the treatment directly into the muscles beneath your skin. This temporary relaxes the muscles, smoothing the lines created by muscle contraction in that area of the face. A single treatment can last for at least three months, but results will vary from patient to patient. Side effects are usually temporary and mild. They could include swelling, bruising or redness at the injection sites.

Dysport

Both Botox and Dysport are FDA-approved for treating frown lines between the eyes, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. The main difference between the Dysport and Botox wrinkle relaxers is that Dysport contains smaller molecules, typically leading to faster results. You may notice facial changes in three days with Dysport versus the normal seven with Botox. Dysport can be more useful for larger treatment areas.

Xeomin

Xeomin is a little different from Botox and Dysport. Though it’s also made from botulinum toxin, Xeomin is FDA-approved for frown lines and not as useful as Botox or Dysport for other areas of the face. Xeomin is also different in that it includes no additives, meaning that there is less risk of your body forming antibodies to resist it. Xeomin dosing is much the same as Botox and typically requires fewer units than Dysport does. You should notice initial results within the first three to four days following treatment. Xeomin lasts about as long as the other wrinkle relaxers do. Xeomin may also treat some small wrinkles on the forehead.
