What is the Difference Between Botox and Dysport?
Botox and Dysport are popular muscle relaxers that are injected into the skin to naturally reduce the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet and other unwanted wrinkles. Both of these treatments work by administering a substance called botulinum toxin type A that relaxes the muscles by blocking excessive nerve activity. However, while the treatments are similar, Botox has been available in the United States since 2002 and is currently the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure.
Although Dysport has only been available in the United States since 2009, this treatment also offers significant benefits. One of the most prominent benefits is that, compared to Botox, the Dysport formula contains smaller molecules. In some patients, this means that the solution will spread to a larger area and may show up faster than Botox.
Because the two treatments are so similar, it can be difficult for patients to determine which is right for them. If you are in the Los Angeles area and want to restore your skin’s smooth, youthful appearance, our clinicians at Skin by Lovely in Santa Monica can help you select the most beneficial treatment based on your skin structure and corrective needs.
