Skin by Lovely Portland would like to introduce you to one of our kind, quick-witted, and super talented Injection Specialists, Amanda Russell MSN FNP-C. She has that kind of presence that just wraps you up and makes you feel seen. An artist at heart, Amanda utilizes her strong sense of creativity to deliver gorgeous, soft, and balanced looks using cosmetic injectables.
Amanda is a graduate of Vanderbilt’s Family Nurse Practitioner Master’s program and has extensive experience as a cardiac nurse.
1. What brought you to Portland?
Skin by Lovely brought me to the Pacific Northwest! I was living in Nashville and just finished my MSN program when I was looking for Nurse Practitioner jobs.
My fiancé and I wanted to relocate to the West Coast to live a more outdoor lifestyle with our two pups.
I came across Skin by Lovely’s job posting and fell in love with the company from across the country!
2. Why Skin by Lovely?
I loved that Skin by Lovely offered a fellowship for newbies in aesthetic medicine. It was important for me to have the proper training where I could nurture my craft and feel confident in treating patients.
Skin by Lovely goes above and beyond preparing their injectors for success. I truly love my job and the people I get to work with. Everyone is so warm and welcoming!
3. What has your experience been within the field of aesthetics?
Prior to my nursing career I studied art history and painting. Creating art is a true passion of mine. I feel that my artistic background has helped with a smooth transition from being a cardiac nurse to an Injection Specialist at Skin by Lovely Portland.
4. Do you have a favorite product to inject?
That’s a tough one!
I really like Restylane Defyne. It is such a versatile filler. Particularly, I love the way the product looks in lips. Another plus is the longevity of the outcomes.
5. If you had to choose just one: Botox, dermal filler, or skin care?
Hands down, Botox would be my choice.
Botox can slow the physical signs of aging. It helps prevent wrinkle formation and reduces sebum production, which can reduce the appearance of pores. I have oily skin and have noticed a drastic difference in my skin after being injected with Botox.
6. What does ‘natural beauty’ mean to you?
Natural beauty to me means unconditional self-love and acceptance.
I love getting to work with people who radiate this positivity and warmth. It is so captivating and infectious. I think part of my job is encouraging patients to have more self-love and to truly appreciate their unique beauty.
7. When you’re not at Skin by Lovely, how do you like to spend your time?
I love getting outside with my family! We enjoy going on hikes and walks through the forest.
The trees in Oregon are so beautiful! I am inspired by all the shades of green, which is my favorite color. ?
8. What three adjectives describe you best?
9. What is the one thing that most people don’t know about you?
Growing up my dream job was to be an animator for Disney.
I was obsessed with the animated films created in the 1930s-1960s. I collected all the Disney VHS tapes.
My favorite animated film was Fantasia. I love how the film blends animated imagery with classical music.
10. What advice would you give your younger self?
Be kinder to yourself would be my advice.
I try to keep my self-criticisms in check nowadays. At points in my life I truly struggled with self-love and an internal monologue muddled with harsh judgments.
“If I am not good to myself, how can I expect anyone else to be good to me?”
