Microneedling

Whether you have old acne scars, scarring from an injury, or biopsy scarring— microneedling can help!

Microneedling is a treatment that creates micro-injuries to the skin. This process encourages the production of collagen and elastin which reduces the appearance of scar tissue.

Multiple treatments may be required to obtain maximum results, but some patients experience their desired outcome after just one treatment.

Treatments are usually spaced four to six weeks apart, and your Injection Specialist will tailor a maintenance regimen if needed. Microneedling can:

  • Improve skin tone & texture
  • Reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks
  • Stimulate collagen and elastin production
  • Treat fine lines & wrinkles
  • Help deliver skincare products deep into the tissue

Microneedling FAQs

How many treatments do I need to see results?

Although you may see results after the first treatment, most people require more to see maximum results. It depends on the issue you wish to address, and can be determined more appropriately after examination by your Aesthetic Injection Specialist. Most patients require at least three initial treatments in the first three months, with one or two maintenance treatments per year.

According to a study published in The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, microneedling can significantly improve lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, and skin texture. Results can last three to five months following the first treatment.

Microneedling is considered a safe treatment for most people. Because the device does not use any substance (unless requested), and the microchannels created by the device are generally shallow and easily healed by the body, there are few risks involved. Common side effects are mild tenderness, redness, and skin peeling which usually resolve in a few days. It’s important to see a specialist for this procedure to maximize safety, comfort, and results.

Most people who seek a noninvasive treatment for skin blemishes are good candidates to undergo a microneedling procedure. Those who are currently on certain oral or topical medications, even those for dermatologic purposes, may not be good candidates for microneedling. If you are uncertain of your candidacy, a determination can be made during consultation.
