Trust is of the utmost importance when selecting an aesthetic provider. At Skin by Lovely in Santa Monica, CA, Portland, OR, and Lake Oswego, OR our Injection Specialists are Aesthetic Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants. A Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist (CANS) is uniquely qualified to give aesthetic treatment you need with their specialized knowledge and skill sets. What exactly is a CANS and what sets them apart from the rest of the medical community? We’ll go over the steps a nurse must take to achieve this certification as well as the benefits of choosing a CANS provider for aesthetic treatments.
Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist (CANS) Requirements
A Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist (CANS) must undergo a significant amount of education, training, and experience. Before becoming a CANS provider, registered nurses and nurse practitioners must complete the following steps.
1. A Registered Nurse (RN) can hold either an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in nursing; a Nurse Practitioner holds a Master’s Degree in nursing. Both must be licensed in their state in order to practice, with requirements to obtain and renew licensing varying from state to state.
2. After obtaining the required degrees and licensing, RNs and NPs can gain employment as Cosmetic Nurses (also known as aesthetic nurses or plastic surgery nurses). Under the supervision of experienced medical aesthetic providers, a cosmetic nurse gains the training and experience necessary to perform aesthetic treatments such as Botox and filler injections.
3. After two to three years and 1,000 practicing hours as a cosmetic nurse, they can then test to receive CANS certification through the Plastic Surgical Nursing Certification Board (PSNCB), indicating that they are the best of the best in the field of cosmetic nursing.
4. Once CANS certification is obtained, nurses are required to recertify every three years after 45 hours of continuing education is completed.
Benefits of Seeing a Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist for Botox and Fillers
Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialists and the nurses, physician assistants, and doctors they train on aesthetic injectables can provide you with unparalleled quality service if you are seeking cosmetic treatments like Botox or dermal fillers.
The specialized training will give you the best possible results for your facial rejuvenation treatments. Both Botox and dermal fillers are common treatment plans for aging skin.
